Hawaii 2008

Hawaii was beautiful! We went to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. We did not want to come home! Here is just a small sampling of what we did and what we saw...

Let's start with the wild life...
This is a honu (Hawaiian green sea turtle). He was just hanging out sunning himself on the beach of the City of Refuge (Pu'honua O Honaunau).
This is a beautifully colored fish we saw while snorkeling at the Captain Cook Monument.
This is a manta ray. We had the opportunity to go night snokeling where these huge mantas were swimming literally inches from us! It was awesome.

This is the local friendly gecko. They were all over if you looked for them. This guy was enjoying some lunch with us at a little coffee shack in Kona.

Here are some of the way cool things we saw:

On our visit to Oahu we stopped off at the Dole pineapple plantation and you better believe we had some fresh pineapple shipped home!

This is the Captain Cook Monument. Captain Cook was a British sailor that landed here. The ancient Hawaiian thought that he was one of their gods but when they found at he wasn't a god, they killed him (in true Hawaiian fashion). Now there is a monument in his honor. This parcel of land is owned by Great Britian.
This is the Painted Church. Its an awesome little chapel that was built by the locals. The locals at the time were only good at building boats so the ceiling of the chapel is in the shape of a boat hull. Every inch of the inside of this tiny church is painted with beautiful murals.

This is a view of the sulfur cloud that Mount Kilauea is spewing. This is a lava field. The lava destroyed everything in its path on its way to the ocean.

A lava arch.

The Pu'u O'o eruption of 2007 cause a lava flow to run directly over the Chain of Craters road in Volcano National Park. This is the end of the road! This (believe it or not) is a part of the rainforest that is at Volcano National Park.South Point, Hawai'i. The most southern point of the United States. We visited Pearl Harbor. We were able to take the shuttle boat out to the USS Arizona. The wall of names of the men and women who died on that fatefull morning.

God bless America!

I'm at the aft torpedo tubes in the USS Bowfin submarine.Bob and I in front of the 16 inch cannons on the USS Battleship Missouri. We spent a whole day at the PCC! It's a great place. We learned a lot and had tons of fun and great food. This is misubi. It sounds exotic but its really just SPAM and rice wrapped in seaweed. It was actually pretty good! Hawaiians love thier SPAM.Bob and I in front of the Laie Temple. This is 'Iolani Palace. The kings and queens of not-so-ancient Hawaii ruled from here. This is the only royal palace on US soil.

Beautiful Oahu mountains.

Everything is done a little different in Hawaii! We even brough the dogs bone leis. Here's Savannah with hers.

So ends our fantastic trip. Everyone must see Hawaii before they die! It's too beautiful to miss.
